My favourite garden visitors of 2014...................................... Bullfinches

A pair of Bullfinches visited my feeders daily for a couple of months earlier this year.

The clip starts with the female (with a Goldfinch behind) then the more colourful male.
Not a bird species I have seen very often in the 10 years I have lived here... so a bit special.

Fun feeding the birds at Grange over Sands

We went down to the Ornamental Gardens most mornings during our break at Grange over Sands.
This is a short clip of us feeding the birds.
Bar-headed and Snow Geese plus plenty of noisy/greedy Black-headed Gulls.

The geese followed us around as if we were the Pied Piper... it was fun feeding them.
On this particular morning we ran out of bread so crossed the road to the bakers to get some more...
...to our surprise they actually did "duck bread" or rather bread past it's sell by date.
All we had to do was donate some cash to charity... they gave us loads.

This video was captured using my little old (2007) Casio pocket camera... it still does a good job.
Warning... don't have your volume turned up too loud... they are rather noisy.

My little garden has been so colourful this year.. both the flora and the fauna.

This is a remake of my last video clip... this time showing some of my visitors.

I love my little garden

I have planted my garden to try and attract more Bees and Butterflies this year.

It's looking really colourful and has been a success... more clips to follow.

Juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker

I had a wonderful fifteen minutes watching and filming this juvenile GSW on my peanut feeder.

It's been in and out of the garden for a couple of weeks.
I set up the camcorder on a tripod at around 5.30am and left it running.
An hour later I had captured about ten minutes of usable video... well worth getting up early for.

Tuesday 27 May 2014

Jackdaw (Corvus monedula)

I captured this Jackdaw feeding on the suet balls... it was the first time I had seen one hanging off this feeder.

Jackdaws have a reputation for inquisitiveness and opportunism.

The squirrel proof feeder doesn't deter the Wood Mouse

This feeder is six foot off the ground... he climbed up my fence... and jumped.

Saturday 10 May 2014

Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)

Male Bullfinch on my garden feeder... it was only the 5th I have seen one in my garden in nine years.

Thursday 8 May 2014

The Blue Tit doesn't quite get it

All the garden birds have worked out the bottle feeder ... apart from the Blue Tit.

So funny to watch.

Martin Mere Wildlife and Wetlands Trust

A short clip of the birds at the Wetlands and Wildlife Trusts reserve Martin Mere Lancashire.

This was captured during November 2011... Whooper Swans were in good numbers.
They feed the wild birds around 3pm every day... don't have the sound too loud as they are very noisy.

Busy on the garden bird feeders

House Sparrows are having a bad time in the UK but mine seem to be doing OK.

The bird with yellow on it's wings is a Goldfinch and it's a Blackbird at the end of the clip.

Sandwich, Common and Arctic Terns all breed here.

It's a wonderful place to visit.
The colony is on a small island in brackish water behind the shingle beach...
... it's a noisy place to visit during the breeding season.

Coal Tit (Periparus ater)

This is part one of two short video clips... Starting near the car park at Witton Mill I head over  to Neumanns Flash then towards the Trent And Mersey Canal via Dairy House Meadow.

Monday 6 January 2014

I'm sat in the rain... and your bird feeders are empty!

My garden squirrel is a little vandal and destroys all my feeders...

... but I have to admit he is so cute to watch.
